USERA Spec Racer Challenge at Lime Rock Memorial Day Weekend


Richard Weihl at Lime Rock Park The 3rd and 4th Rounds of the 2010 USERA Spec Racer Challenge Championship were held in conjunction with the Grand-Am Rolex Series at Lime Rock Park May 28-29.

The USERA Spec Racer Challenge races were exciting with Reid Stewart taking the Race 3 victory followed by local John Steinmetz and Herb Sweeney III.

Race 4 saw what is believed to be the closest Spec Racer Ford finish in the history of Lime Rock Park as the trio of Steinmetz, Randy Youngsma and Bruce Myers were closing on the lapped car of George Scott. The three leaders caught Scott at the stripe for an amazing four car wide photo finish. When the applauds subsided and everyone caught their breath, Myers had taken the victory a mere 0.026 seconds over second place Youngsma, with Steinmetz just 0.060 seconds in third. The Race 4 finish was one of the most exiting finishes of the day.

Following Rounds 3 and 4, Richard Wiehl assumed the lead in the championship points standings ahead of Herb Sweeney III in second and Jason Barfield in third.
